In Gion, Kyoto perhaps the most well-known area for geishas in Western literature. This image was taken at an invite only party were a geisha and maiko were hired to entertain the guests. The month was February so the motifs on a lot of the kimonos and kanzashi (hair ornaments is the ume (plum) blossom.
