Fishpond restaurant selfie
Dining with the Koi fish (鯉, Cyprinus carpio, Cyprinus rubrofuscus) at the Sungkâ Native Restaurant, in Barangay Day-as of the Municipality of Córdova, Mactan Island, Province of Cebú. The restaurant is names after the traditional shell board game Sungkâ, where the “submerged” dining booths are scattered all over large koi pond of Nishikigoi (錦鯉brocaded fish), much like the cup-shaped holes of the Sungkâ board game.
While dining, guests can gaze at the colorful fishes swimming around the dining areas and feed them. The Sungkâ Native Restaurant opened in 2023 and has become a new tourist attraction for the Municipality of Córdova.
The game of Sungkâ is played all over the world and comes in many names:
Indonesia: congkak, congka, and jogklak
Javanese: dakon or dhakon
Lampung Indonesia: dentuman lamban
Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore: congkak
Sulawesi Indonesia: mokaotan, maggaleceng, aggalacang or nogarata
This picture was taken circa 2024, on one of my regular meanderings around the Cebú Province to get to know my new hometown.
