"Unless you have good news- then get the fuck out!" Philip wasn't feeling great because of someone burning down one of his race tracks, and he had threats about his bars going up in flames next. He was dealing with the bank dealings and he didn't have the patience for any more bad news.

He didn’t understand why he showed up at her door today of all days, she was lucky he hadn’t had her killed or killed her himself. He trusted her, actually opened up for her only to make it possible for him and his men to get in a trap, he’d been clear that he wouldn’t forgive her when he had her banished. But tonight he had found himself at her door slightly drunk, but he wanted her touch, he hadn’t given himself to anyone since she left and he needed something.  Without a word they made it further into her home and he was already with her help taking off his shirt. He was positive he couldn’t forgive her, she put his family in danger, but he could still do this? He was confused but he wasn’t going to stop.

“i need a break? i was going to sign documents to buy new race horses but alright...” he said folding up the papers as he appreciated that this wasn’t a request asked of him in the form of a fight. “shall i take you on a night to one of the clubs? to a show?” 

“Everything I do-...I do for this family. Do you hear me?” Philip got close as his tone lowered to a whisper as he didn’t want to wake the younger ones. “So don’t you start with the righteous bullshit with me, until you get off your ass and make the hard choices. Then I expect you to keep your mouth shut and reap the benefits of my labor do you fucking understand me? And if you ever talk to me like that again in front of the gang, the family or anyone- you will finally see how much privilege you had being on my good side.”

He barely looked at the other as he lit his cigarette and waited for his whiskey to get poured, for days now he noticed things were going missing, his missions were compromised but this had been the icing on the cake- the night he lied about where the guns were they were caught trying to leave. “Why were you sneaking around?” He didn’t want to believe that they were the traitor but he couldn’t just let the evidence slide this time. 

“if you have a problem with how i run this shit, then you fucking forget who pays the bills and signs the checks. this whole life you have is because of me, the clothes you have, who’s money did you use to pay for them?” he loved them he did, but what he didn’t need was their crap and problems put on him when he had so much to deal with already. “this family runs because of me, if you hate it, you’re free to leave anytime.”

phillip looked up at the ceiling, feeling the movement of the body out of his bed. just hours before he came to her house he’d been in a near-death situation and had many regrets he had. her being one of them, “marry me,” he said simply more like it was a passing thought than an actual question that was an important milestone.

Philip knew he made the promise to come home safely, and for a moment he almost didn’t make it, he had even stood in his own grave that he had to dig before someone else saved him. He found himself at a breaking point, but gathered himself together before he walked into the front doors of his home and could feel the warmth of the fire place. Walking further into his home, he saw two toddlers, a boy and girl asleep on the couch with a blanket covering them and the one-year-old in the crib cooing in his sleep. The further he walked, the closer he could see a figure asleep on the couch near the fire place, and kneeling down in front of her he shook her knee as he looked up  at her waiting for her to wake up. “I’m home.”
