I’ll never forget being the Banatao’s UC Merced guide. During our time together, I learned that Dado and my dad, both men of rural beginnings, were one of the few electrical engineers to come out of Manila at the time. They share the stories of how the rigor upper division engineering courses weeded out a majority of students that once filled big engineering lecture halls by the time of graduation. How my dad pledged Tau Gamma Phi in the dawn of Marital Law. How their colleagues have grown old and some have gone onto Silicon Valley aspirations. But they never forget to give back to their homeland. The stories are all so alike with so much passion, pride, and persistence. I need to remember stories like these. We all do.
Happy #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth 🇵🇭
