                 did Jae truly know how much of an IMPACT those words had on him? on the broken soul that had the name Myung? name meaning bright -- and yet, there was nothing bright about him but JAE. Face was hidden behind his hands and he could feel tears sting in his eyes - not the bad kind, of course not. The good kind, the tears he would shed out of happiness and relief. The tears he shed because he was feeling something he couldn’t quite explain. Jae was the only person he needed in his life, the only person he TRULY -- needed. Slowly, he raised his gaze, hands lowering from his face, revealing red cheeks and teary eyes. 

                       PERHAPS   LIGHT   SHOULD   HAVE   EXPECTED   THE   RESPONSE   ,      though   he   didn ‘  t   think   the   other   would   hear   him   .      shit   ,      if   he   took   too   long   to   come   up   with   a   retort   ,      L   WOULD   WIN   .      

                       “      it ‘  s   a   figure   of   speech   .      are   you   sure   you   aren ‘  t   desperate   ?      even   you   had   to   know   that ‘  s   not   what   i   meant   .      ”            the   young   man   allowed   himself   a   confident   smile   .      ‘      there   ,      a   success   ,      ’            he   thought   smugly   .      still   ,      it   did   make   him   think   .      while   light   did   technically   have   a   girlfriend   ,      he   didn ‘  t   love   her   .      he   considered   them   friends   at   best   .      but   L   . . .      could   he   be   attracted   to   the   other   man   ?      

                      light   always   tried   to   avoid   lying   to   himself   .      while   there   were   many   things   he   hid   from   the   prying   eyes   &.   ears   of   others   ,      he   almost   never   deceived   himself   .      

                      turning   his   outward   focus   back   to   his   screen   ,      he   allowed   himself   to   think   .      did   he   respect   L   ?      absolutely   .      the   detective   was   smarter   than   anyone   else   light   had   ever   met    before   ,     possibly   as  intelligent   as   light   himself   ,      albeit   lacking   in   social   graces   .      but   was   he   attracted   to   the   other   man    ?      gender   aside   ,      the   detective   had   rather   . . .      disgusting   habits   ,      at   least   as   far   as   light   was   concerned   .      he   was   sloppy   ,     in   both   manners   and   appearance   ,      and   he   seemed   to   never   bother   to   take   care   of   himself   .      still   ,      he   wasn ‘  t   ugly   .      with   a   little   work   -    a   lot   of   work    -   ,      the   man   could   be   handsome   .      possibly   .      

                      intelligence   was   attractive   ;      light   always   fancied   the   idea   of   having   an   intellectual   peer   for   a   partner   ,      and   L   certainly   fit   the   bill   in   that   regard   .      and   they   did   get   along   fairly   well   ,      despite   being   chained   together   .      

                       the   biggest   question   at   hand   ,      of   course   ,      was   whether   or   not   light   wanted   a   relationship   ,      at   least   a   physical   one   ,      with   his   . . .      L   .      the   man   was   no   fool   ,      he   knew   the   . . .      logistics   of   such   things   .      but   there   was   pleasure   involved   too   ,      right   ?      it   would   be   an   interesting   experiment   if   nothing   else   .      so   long   as   no   one   else   found   out   .   

                        “      i   must   say   ,      i   am   surprised   .      i   didn ‘  t   think   you   were   capable   of   such   feelings   .      ”

                        the   detective ‘  s   response   would   let   light   know   if   the   other   was   thinking   the   same   thoughts   .      if   he   was   ,      well   ,      light   wasn ‘   t   sure   what   to   do   .

               ❝ do you ever worry that maybe you’re not good enough...? like you’re going to disappoint people... ❞

                 and so, after a few unheard calls from his side, Myung reached out with his hand, fingers around Jae’s chin, turning his head away from the work he had in front of him. ❝you’ve done so much today, pay attention to me --❞ he said, a pout forming on his lips but he did not let the other go yet, he kept his gaze fixed on Jae. ❝forget work for today... please, spend some time with me❞

                        LIGHT   HAD   BEEN   THINKING   AGAIN   -      about   his   nightmares   ,      the   gaps   in   his   memory   .      the   more   he   thought   ,      the   more   he   suspected   he   was   KIRA   .      but   . . .      light   didn ‘  t   think   he   would   want   to   kill   anyone   .      not   really   .      sure   ,      he   thought   about   it   ,      every   officer ‘  s   son   probably   did   .      but   that   doesn ‘  t   mean   they   all   became   killers   .   

                         so   what   made   light   different   ?      and   why   couldn ‘  t   he   remember   .      if   he   could   remember   ,      he   could   stop   ,      right   ?      unless   his   memories   would   make   him   a   different   person   -      at   least   a   different   version   of   himself   .    

                          when   the   detective   finally   agreed   to   let   them   sleep   ,      finally   let   light   get   him   alone   ,      he   threw   his   arms   around   the   other ‘  s   neck   and   held   him   close   .      “      I   just   want   to   hold   you   ,      ”            he   whispered   .      ‘   i   want   to   pretend   that   things   are   okay   ,  ’      but   he   left   that   unsaid   .      

                          he   let   out  a   shaky   breath   -      a   half -  sob   -      as   the   other ‘  s   fingers   found   their   way   into   his   hair   .      he   just   wanted   to  say   it   .      to   believe   that   his   lov -      his   . . .      whatever   they   were   ,      that   L   would   forgive   him   .      but   how   could   he   ?      how   could   he   ever   ,      ever   forgive   light   for   being   a   murderer   ?      it   was   unforgivable   .

                            keeping   this   secret   was   selfish   -      too   selfish   .      ‘   maybe   there ‘  s   some   kira   left   in   me   after   all   .   ’       he   should   just   say  it   ,      say   it   and   accept   the   consequences   .      but   he   couldn ‘  t   speak   .      his   eyes   stung   with   tears   and   he   cursed   his   own   childishness   .      grown   men   didn ‘  t   cry   over   their   sins   .      they   accepted   them   .      so   what   did   that   make   light   ?      unworthy   .

                            “      i ‘  m   sorry   .      ”
