Story time! Back in 1998 I bought a Pioneer PDR-509 CD Recorder. It was one of the first stand alone burners and was pretty revolutionary at the time. It allowed me to make compilation CDs of my favorite artists, filling them with guest appearances they made on other albums. One of the first ones I did was this DMX compilation. Check out the front and back CD cover I made in Microsoft Word ‘98! When DMX got his record deal at Def Jam he was on fire. Every guest feature he did was always one of the best tracks on that persons album. These were some of my favorite at the time. I went back and listened to them yesterday & he steals the show on all of them. The next pictures are from my Mixtapes (Pause Tapes really since I didn’t learn to mix until many years after that) that I made back in high school. This was Phat Jams Volume 6 which I made in my sophomore year: 1993! Towards the end of Side A is DMX’s first ever single “Born Loser”, which I had on cassette at the time. That’s how long I have been a fan of his. I would have put that song on my DMX compilation but I didn’t find a CD copy of it until several years later. I’m glad that the world is celebrating him now, he truly was one of a kind. If you’ve never heard his song “Born Loser” and you are a fan, go back and listen to it. It shows how vulnerable and open he was in his music and this was 1993 at a time when NO ONE in hip hop was doing it. Rest In Peace to one of the greats #RIPDMX #PhatJams #DJKontrol (at Las Vegas, Nevada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNfnjAYsBDC/?igshid=1u1dypz3in1c8
