It seems that there is somewhere on this site another big parade/display of ignorance and foolishness, this time of disparagement not only of Herodotus, but also of  “ thussydiddies, aristofannies, and cockrates” (!) and more generally of the “gr...ks” (sic) ! And this from -supposedly- “woke” people ! For me it is clear from all this that there is a big cultural problem with many on the Left in the contemporary West : many “woke’ people -especially among the younger- not only ignore the Classics and more generally the crucial breakthroughs of the ancient Greeks (I will mention here only the notions of democracy, rule of law, political freedom, and philosophy) and their historical importance, but they believe as it seems that belittling them, denigrating them, and attacking them with stupid vulgarity is something “progressive” or even “revolutionary”. Of course criticism of the ancient Greece is something sound and necessary, but criticism is one thing, nihilistic attacks and total rejection is another. And forgetting, let alone attacking with such ignorant disdain and rage the roots of our civilization is something potentially culturally and morally suicidal. On the other hand, it seems that the same “woke” people on this site who reject totally the Greeks admire uncritically the Egypt of the “divine kingship” (= theocratic despotism), considering as “racist” (!) any criticism of its (many) oppressive, exploitative, and alienating aspects. But for me it is obvious not only that such mentalities are ridiculously ignorant, but also that they are ideologically and politically dangerous : uncritical admiration for “benevolent” theocratic despotism and for hierarchical models of society is not something ideologically and politically neutral and harmless.
