Oh yes, they bruise. Some more than others, but definitely. Many Christines wears knee pads in different scenes to get a bit of protection in the floorwork they’re doing, either because they’re dancing (Hannibal) or is “thrown around” (First Lair, Final Lair), and it simply makes their knees and wrists bruise.

Teresia Bokor was quite feisty in the Final Lair, fighting the Phantom, so she ended up extra bruised. It should be added it’s how she and her co-player chose to play the scene, it wasn’t involuntarily. After 2-3 weeks playing Christine, she had a lot of marks on her bodice, and someone saw them and laconically commented that “Now you’re a proper Christine”.

So yes, the Christine actresses bruise, and knee pads are worn to prevent the worst damages. In addition people might simily get hurt, bumping into sharp edges, falling, whatnot. In Guangzhou Emilie Lynn got into near contact with the chandelier and damaged her knee quite badly. Mary Michael Patterson got a solid knock of the boat pole in her head and was out for a couple of performances. And Tabitha Webb… I’m not sure what happened here, but there was blood and lots of it… It’s a dangerous job!
