if i had a nickel for every audio fiction podcast i was invested in about a rock band going on tour to solve supernatural problems, i'd have 2 nickels. which isn't a lot but it's very cool that it happened twice

PHANTOM PULSE It’s 1998 and Phantom Pulse is setting out on their longest tour yet–seven weeks of dive bars and indie venues across the Mid
We are casting!!! We're looking for a range of types, both based in LA and remote.
We're excited to hear your auditions!
i'm sorry if you've been asked this before, and feel free to ignore if you have, but when can we expect phantom pulse? i'm so stoked about it!
it's something we talked about on our kickstarter page, but I haven't given an big public update in a while so thanks for asking! I am so grateful for the incredible generosity people showed us, but because we didn't exceed our goal significantly, we only have the money for recording and not post-production. which just means things are going to be a tad slower than if we'd somehow managed to raised 100k (which, to be clear, was not something we expected!).
all to say, the current plan is to start releasing the show to backers early next year, with public release coming summer of 2027. we do have some plans for some content this fall, but I don't want to say anything specific until we've actually got recording dates locked, because actors' schedules can change and of course the thing that's going to affect post-production the most will be when we can get everything recorded (the current plan is this summer!)
I'm super happy to answer whatever I can about production timelines/budgets/etc. this is a real bear of a show to produce and I'm so excited for it to be out to people and I also want it to be as incredible as possible!
my phantom pulse prints arrived!!! i can't wait for this show to release
image description: 5 prints laid out on a floor. each one is a different member of phantom pulse (left to right, top to bottom: cal, ren, jo, bremmer and ash) surrounded by objects that represent them. /end id
i gotta do cosplay for them again or something, i need them
Do you think Ash from @phantompulseband would approve of me writing Heated Rivalry fanfiction on the back of my church bulletin from the choir balcony during the reverend's sermon?

Long Story Short: A Review of Tales From Wolf Mountain
I'm hardly ever pumping out commentary about the hot new content coming out with fiction podcasts and I think that's something I'm going to make an active effort to change going into the new year.
Not that I don't want to put a spotlight on older audio drama that I think deserve some love, possibly triggering a second wind that can inspire people to give a hidden gem the attention it deserves, but it never hurts to stay up to date with the newcomers and returning talent that make this community so interesting.
I like to schedule my reviews way ahead of time, and while some things are set in stone, like my Atypical August review special, others I may or may not swap out to give the new blood a thorough look.
Rusty Quill's The Redacted Unit and Gabriel Urbina's The Harbingers come to mind, and I'm seriously anticipating Lauren Shippen's newest passion project, Phantom Pulse, but those are future endeavors that will get proper focus a few months from now.
And while not coming out in 2025, Tales From Wolf Mountain is still a more recent addition to the audio drama circuit, arriving in early 2024, and is an ongoing production as of this writing. An anthology piece, it tells a series of "continually strange and occasionally macabre stories" provided by a rotating group of writers and actors.
The best thing about an anthology is that there's always a little something for everyone, and, in my attempts to mix up my listening habits for the new year, have grown quite fond of.
Despite my love for traditional, linear storytelling, I'm a sucker for short story collections. As for Wolf Mountain, its ambition, creative energy, and sheer bulk of its experimentation make its storytelling pursuits rather admirable.
The ideas are interesting, unique, straddling the line between darkly humorous and genuinely unsettling without crossing the line into outright depravity.
And, while I appreciate Wolf Mountain's taste for the bizarre and its slew of creative ideas, I'd be lying if I said the product as a whole wasn't frequently crippled by a handful of technical shortcomings.
is it failing the bechdel test if the dude two women are talking about is god?
my favorite thing about enjoying indie audio dramas is that they’re small enough for the creators to be engaged personally with their listener bases.
lauren shippen has heard my phantom pulse fansongs. i just emailed joe and finlay from midnight burger to ask for advice about living with an autoimmune disease.
aside from winning my undying loyalty to every piece of media they make, it’s so cool to see the people you… well, idolize, making gorgeous art and being willing to spare a few minutes of their time to let you know that your attention is valuable
