No, I don’t. D+P have only ever expressed that their relationship is that of best friends. It is (some of) the audience that assume/speculate that it is something else - something romantic/sexual (and therefore “queer" bc they are the same gender/sex).

I’ve seen people say they are queer baiting through encouraging fans to create fanart/fanfic but really that’s just because D+P understand fandoms/shipping and the creativity that sparks from being apart of it - it’s a way of expressing yourself and D+P aren’t ones to discourage people doing that. If D+P were truly queer baiting, we’d see it more clearly - through titles of videos, thumbnails...etc. (that’s just a few examples).

Even now I’d argue D+P never bring direct attention to certain points, they simply edit their videos to progress the content and sometimes that means they gotta involve [in the video] them doing something that could be seen as a lil gay intimate/close...in the end though, we are the ones who hype about moments shared with us.

Some may argue, they aren’t idiots they know what we want and they can easily bait us in with that but... I don’t know... I just really don’t see them as queer baiting??? they may be, at a stretch, “ship-baiting”...or rather ... giving us “fanservice”....but... is that really a bad thing? I mean, those things don’t automatically equate to malicious intent. They are just being themselves, they are just sharing their natural chemistry...we, the audience like that, so... in a way, they are...”servicing” the “fans” - i talk more about that in this tag though.

Well, I’d argue those people have got to understand that we are the ones perceiving and hyping about D+P’s relationship as being romantic - D+P, in recent years, have only ever put forward that their relationship is platonic.

It’s also important to recognise that just because they are open/sharing more stuff, doesn’t mean they are implying they’re romantically involved together. Generally, we’ve got to break down what we know as platonic/romantic because sometimes these things can intertwine/differ/not be what we think. By this i mean to imply that, some stuff that can/is commonly considered romantic can actually be considered as solely platonic between others (e.g. cuddling, hand holding etc.). Sometimes the lines between what is consider platonic/romantic behaviour can blur, and i feel this is especially relevant in regards to D+P’s relationship. We, their audience, see a lot of the stuff they do as ‘romantic’ because we are basing it of what we (individually/as a group) know to be consider as romantic behaviour - when it can actually also be solely considered platonic behaviour.

If we consider the above, then it’s totally possibly for people who are “just friends” to do all the domestic shit they (D+P) do - especially when you consider the idea of friends who live together.

i take the definition of fanservice more literally - like, “servicing the fans with stuff that makes them happy and/or emotional in some way” but yeah yours works too :0

But yeah, referring the word to D+P’s relationship/behaviour doesn’t intended to imply that what they do is fake/disingenuous. Unlike “fanservice” being used towards TV Shows/anime/whatever, it’s not written, scripted or forced. It’s just...them (doing domestic shit. like they do. bc they live together.) and that’s what we happen to love so it’s great when they share that stuff with us. They have “serviced” us for all these years and not once has it felt fake/forced... heck, even in times when they felt v distant with us/each other :’) it’s quite wonderful.

No. I don’t see him as “playing up”...it’s more like he’s... “playing around” with something we’ve been saying forever about a certain aspect of D+P’s relationship - that it is domestic af.I think it’s pretty nice to see Dan actually acknowledge how domestic Phil and him are. Even if there are jokey undertones around those acknowledgements, I don’t feel it makes the things they do any less genuine/personal - especially when you think about very common for Dan to joke about stuff personal to him, because, my guess is, it decreases the struggle of sharing something personal (see literally all his videos that point out mistakes he’s made - something very personal/hard to be open about - yet have a ~entertainment~ vibe to them). I personally see all this is better than them getting defensive/aggressive about stuff like this (i.e. like they, esp. Dan, did about other things during 2012).

i think many people are angry/upset because of Dan’s use of the word ‘fanservice’ but I think they need to realise that “fanservice” does not always equate to fake/forced/bad intent - especially in Dan and Phil’s case. D+P’s genuine behaviour/relationship just so happens to be a way in which D+P can “service” us “fans” :)
