Mmm! You have to love a book that uses food to bring people together! 🍚🍱🍛 And in another wonderful older example of inclusion and diversity, Norah Dooley's "Everybody Cooks Rice" (1991), illustrated in warmly realistic style by Peter Thornton, was the first in a series of books that looked at how the same staple food could be found across a wide variety of cultures. Told through the eyes of a girl hunting down her little brother at dinnertime throughout the neighbourhood, it deftly reflected various familial realities, from latchkey kids to those helping out in small family businesses after school. "Everyone Cooks Rice" looks at cuisines from cultures as diverse as Asian and West Indian immigrant communities and their wonderfully delicious foods to remind us that our differences are not so very different, and all contribute positively to the greater community. ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutsclassickidlit #noodlenutskidsbooks #everybodycooksrice #norahdooley #peterthornton #carolrhodabooks #indianfamily #haitianfamily #vietnamesefamily #westindian #haitianfood #puertoricanfamily #diversebooksforkids #weneeddiversekidsbooks #rice #riceandbeans #riceandpeas #diversefamily #homeschoolmoms #homeschool https://www.instagram.com/p/B4-XvmOHJ5e/?igshid=3184p9tkcllr
