You definitely should! They're great fun and make tumblr people a bit more approachable, I think :)
And you never know!! I'm actually going to share a house with a friend I met on tumblr (well, technically LJ but then tumblr) when I go to a new Uni in a few weeks! The world is surprisingly small sometimes, haha
at the risk of sounding like an idiot, i see networks popping up on tumblr all the time and just never bothered with them. but what, exactly, is the function of a tumblr network?
(you don't sound like an idiot I actually had no idea what they were when I joined my first one I just wanted to be part of ~the thing~ don't worry ♥)
Okay so quick disclaimer: what I'm saying is based off of my own experience and I'm only a member of three networks so it could be different elsewhere.
But basically when you're part of a network you get added to a chat page where you can meet and talk to the other members of the network and you can talk about whatever you want - though usually it's about whatever the network you've joined is for, because that's what you all have in common for sure!! It's a great way to meet new people, get feedback on edits/fics/whatever before you post them, share headcanons... and sometimes you can organise group watching of things/group skype chats, etc.
Also, there's a tag that all of the members of the network track, so if you post something you can guarantee that at least some people will see and appreciate it :)
