1. Go for a hike

Walks are great any time of the year, and winter brings a particular charm. Get motivated to go outside in the cool, crisp air by picking a cool new hiking spot for you and your furry pal. You might even combine this with a spot of midwinter camping: wrap up warm, and you’ll be sure to have a ball.

Whether you head out on an intensive hike or a nightly walk around the block, it’s vital that both you and your pet avoid being sedentary in winter.

2. Make the most of the indoors

Staying at home isn’t all bad. If it’s truly so cold outside that you have to stay in, you can have a great bonding day by staying indoors and playing games with your pet. Puzzle toys, food-dispensing toys, or even a classic game of hide-and-seek could be on the day’s agenda.

3. Bring your pet to an outdoor market

Festive markets are some of the best things about winter. Since the majority of these public markets are held outdoors, it’s usually ok to bring your furry pal along (leashed, of course!). You might even be lucky enough to find a vendor who sells pet-friendly Christmas treats.

4. Go for a winter roadie.

Are all your friends tied up for that winter road trip you’re so keen on? You don’t need them! Take your dog instead – they’ll provide prime company without any annoying banter. 😉

5. Get a pet photo with Santa

If you want something cute and fun for your Christmas cards this year, get a pet photo with Santa. Go on – how could you resist?!

6. Schedule a playdate

If you’re struggling to find winter activities to do with your pet, your neighbors and friends probably are, too. A fantastic solution is to schedule a playdate with people you know who also have pets, to improve your pet’s social skills and get them running around with their own kind.

7. Have fun in the snow

If you’re lucky enough to enjoy snow every winter, make the most of it! Activities like sledding are made a thousand times more fun with a pet.

8. Take a city-light tour

Know another great thing about Christmas time? The lights, of course! Take your pet to view all the best Christmas lights and house decorations in your neighborhood. An advantage is that when you’re walking rather than driving, you can get a much better view of the exquisitely decorated houses.

9. Volunteer at a hospital or retirement home with your pet

The holidays can be a very difficult time for people who are sick or lonely. Ask if you can bring your pet along when you’re volunteering at a local hospital or care home, and see how the patients’ or residents’ eyes light up when they get to pat your furry friend.
