That being said, I've read fanfics about pretty much all of them. Struggles of having a fav that neither the fandom nor canon understand.

This is honestly hilarious, I had never thought of that before XD I could definitely see it---Shikamaru, already not paying attention to much of what's going on in class, mistaking Hinata (which is a unisex name, so there's that too) as just a timid lil weird guy. Would quickly realize his mistake but he'd rather DIE than ever admit it out loud (Choji definitely knows and teases him about it. Shikamaru made him swear NOT to tell Ino, ever) 😆

I hate Hiashi for so many reasons and I don't think that telling Neji the truth about how his father literally died was some noble act, it was something Neji should have always known.

Besides, I don't think Hinata would ever want to hurt Neji — if that's what you're getting at? Like, she understood why he hated her; despite being "better" than her, he was still reduced as a slave and he thought his dad died because of her and Hiashi.

I do hate how Hinata just always puts up with his abuse, though. I wish she actually proved herself to him only to tell him that she doesn't need his praise, that she made it on her own without him. Boruto portraying him as some amazing grandpa is so fucking weird considering he literally abused his daughter(s).

What is so unique about her character is that she's an underdog, a weakling in the truest, rawest sense, who genuinely has to climb her way to the top with her own bare hands. No powers, no hidden™ talent, and she still has zero damsel in distress moments in the whole show (the one where Naruto blocks the three zetsus attack doesn't count because he was saving literally everyone's ass in that whole episode) when the series' female lead has at least 10. Her arc is actually pretty rare for a female character, because her stereotypically Good traits (the ones that ppl complain make her boring) are shown in a negative light. Like she's not glorified for not liking violence because she's female and mc's love interest, she's called a fucking pussy. She was bluntly stated as being a burden to her clan and initially even her team, due to both her weakness and her lack of willingness to fight. But she adapts, and does it so hard that she went on to be the second in command of her clan during the war, and stepped up to lead the allied forces to help Naruto. Like do you KNOW how badass that is? This girl could barely speak two words without stuttering 🥹 Their faces could never.

UGH I love Hinata so much, like it's unreal. Everything you said is 100% FACTSSS (with the exception of, maybe, her leading the Allied Forces bc it's unclear if she actually led them or just highly encouraged/motivated them in the moment, but regardless, it's badass) ✨✨

Ppl tend to forget that Naruto, as a sho,w is inherently violent. The kids graduate from the Academy at age 12 and are immediately thrown into danger. They're child soldiers. And everyone and their mother is a-okay with children being killed bc?? That's their world! That's their reality. The kids grow up disentisized bc what ELSE would they do? The learn to embrace danger and death and violence bc of course they would. The world is ruthless, so they must learn to become ruthless in turn.

But Hinata doesn't. She doesn't let the world strip her of her kindness, her gentleness, the soft way she approaches everything. She's a DAMN GOOD FIGHTER (ppl tend to say she's lost in her battles and forget that the major battles she's lost are against opponents that are WAY above the skill level of most ppl---see: Pein), and when she needs to be (especially if her loved ones are involved) she also becomes ruthless in battle. But only in battle. She's actively, tho perhaps subconsciously, rejecting what the world---what her FAMILY---tries to get her to become. Her clan rejected her bc she's sweet and gentle. Bc she didn't want to hurt her sister (for all we know, if Hanabi had lost in That Fight, she could have been sealed as she was the 2nd born). Her life would have been much much better if she had only just embraced the violence that everyone around her seems to already have (even Naruto, who is still kind and sweet, but was never shy about getting his hands bloody). Maybe then she wouldn't have been dishonorably rejected by the Hyugas, Neji wouldn't have bullied her for the majority of her pre-teen years, her confidence and skills would have been better, etc etc.

But the fact that she doesn't, that she is still stubbornly clinging to softness in a world so void of it, is not a weakness. It's a strength. To be able to do that, to choose to do that, whilst knowing full well that her life is much harder this way, speaks VOLUMES of her mental and emotional fortitude.

I think I've made my feelings about Naruhina obvious in my other posts lol. I somewhat agree with your take, in that, I also do not like the way they dumbified Naruto, this part specifically--> "[...] when he's ALWAYS been fairly emotionally intelligent" Yeah like??? It's just a disservice to his character. Cuz what do you MEAN he thought Hinata loves him the way he loves ramen?? WHAT???? My boi are you fucking for real right now???? lmao but it's not his fault, it's the writers'/Kishi's fault for completely fumbling the romance in the manga/show.

But regarding that---I'm sorry, but I don't think Naruhina was well-executed. And that's coming from a former hardcore Naruhina shipper. The idea was there, and it was freaking adorable (hence why I loved it---cuz it had HUGE potential from the very beginning) but they didn't know how to make it work. And the longer the show went on and they did nothing with the pair (or any pair, save for maybe Shikatema), the more disappointed I became. They lacked screentime together, they lacked romantic development (Hinata was in love with him, yes, but Naruto wasn't, and we never saw him actively develop feelings for her or anything of the sort until The Last).

Yeah, it's understandable, but we can all agree that it's still pretty fucking rude to do so for 2+ years, right??? Bc Naruto didn't even acknowledge her confession---which she proclaimed in the middle of the battlefield, during a fight in which she could have very easily lost her life btw. He straight up ignored it. It just doesn't sit right with me. I'm not saying he should have gone and dated her bc at that point, Naruto was still crushing on Sakura and chasing Sasuke. But he could have said something to show that he at least appreciated it/her. Hinata deserved better, and Naruto didn't deserve this dumbification.

Hinata's character became solely focused on Naruto in Shippuden (I'd make that argument for mostly everyone, but we're talking about Naruhina here) and again---that's Kishi's/writing team's fault---which resulted in the audience not really??? Knowing much about her??? And this lack of understanding of a character just added more fuel to the hater . Unless you're a Hinata fan (and I mean a true fan, not the 'omg Hinata so loyal and innocent and she has big tits, she's the est waifu' fan) most ppl just won't look deeper than the surface of what the show offers. And believe me---there's SO much more to her character if one looks deeper. She's the firstborn of an old, prestigious clan, was neglected and abused from a very early age, the disowned heiress who found her true family in her team and friends. She has a younger sister she loves, so much so that she couldn't bring herself to hurt her, even tho she knew this was going to cost her her title and further the abuse of her clan. She's the girl who had to learn how to stand on her own two feet when her own family tried to push her down. She's a fucking ninja in a world where there's danger everywhere. And through all of that, she managed to remain kind---which is fucking brave af and shows a mental fortitude that you don't see often! I could go on and on. I love reading Hinata-centric fanfics that feature the Hyuga clan bc can you even imagine what this life does to a child? But did we see any of that being explored? No. Even though it would have made for a great character development---even tho she's the main character's eventual love interest.

Oh that sounds fun! Kudos to you for actually being brave enough to write a fic- here I am with so many ideas but too hesitant to write them hjvkjhg

I'm gonna be honest, I haven't read any TLoK fics but yeah I agree that Korra is not taken as seriously/is not given the respect she deserves - not even by the writers themselves sometimes.
