Did you always wanna become an actor or did you have different aspirations while growing up and eventually realised theater was your calling
hello! thank you so much for your excellent question!!
well, i supposed i've never really thought about my aspirations while growing up --- rather, i've never really been given the chance to. it was always to become a doctor, whether i liked it or not. and don't get me wrong, i DO like it. i like helping people when i can, and i think it's an extremely honourable job. massive respect to all the doctors out there! :D
but i think i've been an actor all my life.
i've learnt to behave a certain way around my parents, and a different way at school. i've learnt what is "acceptable" when my father has guests over, and what teachers want to hear from me. even for different teachers, i've learnt to behave accordingly. mr nolan likes when students stand up straight and speak with confidence, while dr hager prefers his students to keep their heads down and work quietly.
my point is, i don't think i truly know who i am.
all my life, i've only presented what other people want to see me as. but with acting and theatre, i get to explore every single side of me --- even the "ugly" or "unacceptable" ones. i get to explore myself wholly, and *i* get to choose which side i want to present to the audience.
with acting, i get to be me.
to quote from whitman, "i am large, i contain multitudes." i'm definitely still figuring things out, but for now, i want to be an actor :)
