UPHSD Chorale changing the lives of people through the years
The UPHSD Chorale once again touched the hearts of their audience as they sing the national anthem during the flag ceremony at the City Hall of Las Piñas last December 5, 2016. They also sang Christmas songs to commemorate this year’s holiday season.
Through the years, the UPHSD Chorale has received numerous of awards and titles over the span of seven years. This includes the Philtoa Eco Chorale Competition at the SMX Convention Center, the MBC National Choral Competition at the Aliw Theater and also in the Senate of the Philippines just last year.
They annually sing in several of major events and morning shows, just like Unang Hirit, Umagang KayGanda and different music festivals just like Sing Soul, Musica Sacra and Pasinaya.
I got the chance to interview the president of the organization, MJ Navarro, who is also a KAMASKOM student. Navarro shared his experience from the beginning up to now. His only plan was to join the chorale for the sake of obtaining a scholarship and he thought that this organization would just sing during church mass. Months passed by, he started to realize that he still has a lot to learn compared to other members of the organization.
“I actually thought of quitting since I felt that I am just a liability to the group and not improving in any aspect”, Navarro said.
Eventually, one of the senior member of the group handled him eagerly to learn more and has inspired Navarro to stay. He honestly began from scratch and from there he knew that his talent, which is singing, will not be enough for him to level up in the organization.
As he step up through the process of choral singing, Navarro learned a lot of things. He actually never expected to become the president of the organization. UPHSD Chorale has taught him how to lead and helped him improve not only his professionalism but also the level of his musicality.
“I learned that whenever we sing, we should sing to glorify God for the talents that He has given us. The only key is that, you just have to love and appreciate what you are doing.” Navarro added.
Ever since the UPHSD Chorale was founded, it has always been changing the lives of people. Whether you are just an audience listening to their soulful voices, or a member that loved every bit of it from the very beginning.
I haven’t met anyone from this organization that actually regret joining it. Everyone I know from the UPHSD Chorale always tells me that this has been one of their greatest achievement in college. It has given them not only experiences but also lots of great opportunities. MJ Navarro is one living proof of this. He has been touching the hearts of people with his profound voice and has given impact to his co-members as a leader of the organization.
The UPHSD Chorale is indeed a magical organization. They can shower people love and enthusiasm by just singing any time of the year.
