Our family (me, co-parent, 2/3 children) have started playing an in-house D&D game, and it has begun to bleed into our regular conversations. The one we have the most often goes like this:
Child: Mama, where is [THING]? Me: (spotting it on the counter 18 inches away) Roll a perception check. (Child scans the entire room, fails to find it.) Child: Mama, I still can't find it. (I hand her [THING].) Child: Oh! I must be rolling with disadvantage. Me: Sweetie, I feel like you're rolling a D4 on your perception checks, can you at least upgrade to a D10? Child: I'll try for a D6 at least!

Have your players constantly roll perception checks but never explain why.
