One of my favorite things about SCP 5031 by @peppersghostscp is the vagueness of its description it can be traditionally scary or kinda cute! My favorite design is the top left so far :)

Technology in Performance - Peppers Ghost
Technology has been used in performance for hundreds of years and has adapted and changed as technological advancements have been made. One example of this is a technique called Peppers Ghost. It’s early use began in what were known as “horror theatres” and was claimed to be magic and illusions but was created using lanterns and illustrations. Henry Dircks was using this technique in his newer version of phantasmagoria and decided to try to sell it to local theatres, sadly his invention was rejected many times as it was seen to be too costly and complicated as the theatres would have to do a complete redesign. Scientist and Professor John Henry Pepper later came across Dircks’ designs and managed to modify the concept to make it much easier to use in traditional theatre structures and it was welcomed into the mainstream performance world (Left Image) and named Pepper’s Ghost.
Today, the concept of Peppers Ghost is still used and modified within performance, exhibition and theatres. Centre stage of Alexander McQueen’s 2015 Savage Beauty show at the V&A in London appeared an ethereal Kate Moss forming and transforming inside a glass prism (Right Image). It astounded the audience as her figure floated into existence from nothing. Though the designers and illusionists behind this showstopper have kept some secrets of their method to themselves, they have confirmed that it was based on the principles of Peppers Ghost and the challenge was “..updating it, using keystoning and distortion to trick the eye” (Hector Macleod, Founder/CEO Glassworks). Though they have not revealed all their cards this still shows how basic illusionary technology can be adapted to the modern world and still has a great impact on an audience today.
