The “character A looks evilly at character B until they turn around” trope but it’s vice versa with Peppino and The Noise.
The Noise looks normal/cutesy/bored/etc. until Peppino turns and suddenly Noise is in mischievous goblin mode focused directly at him.
I love you, Pizza Tower.
Beware of flying pizza
One thing I love about The Vigilante is that the devs took the first enemy of the game into a boss. Cheeseslimes can’t even hurt you, they’re just there to defeat for points. They’re less threatening than a Goomba from Mario.
And I know that The Vigilante is revealed in the intro, so the player expects to see him as a boss. But like. He’s a CHEESESLIME. The player’s set a precedent for what to expect and now they’re fighting the weakest enemy and getting their ass kicked.
Who knew cheeseslimes even had hands?

I love how Peppino is not selfless. The entire game is about him saving his restaurant, and while you can help John it's not necessary. He's not a "good guy" he doesn't see other people's problems and think "I need to fix this."
He's not an outstanding person in any regard. And that's what makes him more realistic and relatable.
The player still wants him to succeed, even though his quest isn't world-saving and is just about him. Not everyone is special or a hero, but everyone has problems life throws at them.
And I think Peppino shows that really well. You don't have to be a "perfect person" to overcome your challenges to deserve better in life.
In which The Noise and Gerome find they have something in common :)
