O Pentaho Data Integration é o componente da suíte Pentaho usado para criar processos de extração, transformação e carga (do inglês Extraction, Transformation and Loading, ETL) que alimentam o banco de dados. Trata-se da ferramenta mais popular e madura da suíte inteira, com seus mais de 15 anos de existência.

Com o Pentaho Data Integration é possível fazer inúmeras operações de Integração de Dados. Como por exemplo:

INSTALAÇÃO

1. Arquivos necessários

Downlaod  Pentaho Data Integration 9 (Community Edition) em um local de sua escolha.

Java SE Runtime Environment 8u241 (jre-8u241-windows-x64.exe)

PS1: Caso queira baixar o restante das aplicações da suite, acesse aqui.

PS2: Versões mais recentes do  Java SE Runtime Environment não funcionam com o Pentaho Data Integration 9.0 e 9.1

2. Procedimentos

O Pentaho Data Integration 9 é uma aplicação portável, sendo necessário apenas baixar o arquivo .zip e descompactar em uma pasta e realizar alguns ajustes.

Antes de prosseguir, é necessário ter instalado o Java Runtime Environment* (JRE, Java Runtime) e que a variável de ambiente PENTAHO_JAVA_HOME esteja configurara para a pasta raiz do seu JRE.

Para editar as variáveis de ambiente, digite no Iniciar do Windows 10: editar as variáveis e selecione.

Logo após, clicar em Variáveis de ambiente:

Na próxima janela, clicar em Novo em Variáveis do Sistema e crie nome da variável PENTAHO_JAVA_HOME e em Valor da Variável: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_241

  Por fim, ficando igual conforme imagem abaixo. Para concluir, clique em ok.

Caso não possua privilégios administrativos, configure a mesma como variável de usuário.

Utilização

Para iniciar o Pentaho Data Integration, abra o arquivo Spoon.bat, no meu caso localizado em D:\data-integration\Spoon.bat. Caso queira criar um ícone para área de trabalho, basta criar um atalho a partir do Spoon.bat e copiar para Área de Trabalho ou Menu Iniciar (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs).

Aumentando a memória

Por padrão, o Pentaho tem a memória máxima de utilização limita a 2GB, o que pode ser alterado caso exista memória disponível no computador. Caso esteja manejando um Big Data é interessante aumentar.

Em Spoon.bat clique com o botão direito do mouse e escolha editar. Com isso, abrirá o Bloco de Notas. Procure a variável PENTAHO_DI_JAVA_OPTIONS que por padrão estará com 2GB (-Xmx2048m). Aqui alterei para 15.360 (15GB).
