You gotta know your audience.....
I was part of the crowd to see Bronze Radio Return last week- General Admission. I had waited to see Bronze Radio Return for the past few weeks. Honestly listened to Shake Shake Shake on repeat for 2 weeks and imagined this foot thumping and having the overall awesome feeling that when the lead singer would start singing, that I would be moved with the music just like I saw it in my mind.
Was I wrong.
Okay the lead singer was the Social Command Center of the Bowery Concerto Hall. He barked orders at the audience to jump, clap and orchestrated a butchered dance break.
He never took into account his college age student s that were trying to sway to him when he was commanding a clap.
By the end of the night I had moved upstairs to watch the lead singer ruin the flow of the room.
Obviously they are not ready for a Madison Square Garden .
What a disappointment.
This is what I would have done if they actually saw the list of their audience members that were showing up.
We were not 25 year old hipsters. We were Fratastic 19 years, Hippyneondeadmaus loving girls and techies with a man in a suit strewn in.
Taddy Porter-the opening band and I discussed the following:
Human cans really only move side to side, up and down , clap and sway in a huge group. When the music doesn’t mold with the natural rhythms, you look like you are jerking. For Bronze Radio Return to make the room flow, they should have hired or placed their best fans in the front, the middle and the back to start the motions organically.
So instead of commanding attention, the illusion of a organic flow would have won the night over and they lead singer woudn’t have to do double duty. Lead singer sings and the crowd dicates the flow-not vice versa.
Make the growth be like the Whole Foods organic growth model
Does an audience control the night- absolutely.
Still love that gosh darn song “Shake Shake Shake” and will imagine the song more like the Lumineers video to ameliorate my horrific flowmatic night.
