Not everyone is driving there
Sometimes as a non-driver I get annoyed by small things. One those things is directions. So often I encounter directions to a location or event, whether it’s a business or a party or a doctor’s appointment, and the directions are written exclusively for drivers. There will be maybe even paragraphs describing how to drive to a location, coming from different directions, then all kinds of instructions about parking options and then how to get from the parking lot or deck into the building, but absolutely nothing about transit or just how to get in if you are walking.
For example, today my office is meeting over at one of Emory‘s hospitals. For a lunch followed by a tour around various different departments, meeting the CEO, etc.. It’s going to be very nice and I’m looking forward to it. We got an email from our admin assistant with all the information, and basically it contains a whole lot of information about exactly how to drive into the hospital and the parking deck and how people can get reimbursed for their parking and then how they can take a bridge directly into the hospital and how to get from there to our room. The directions don’t include any instructions for how to get to the meeting room if you were walking in the front door of the hospital. Now I actually know how to do this because I have been a patient at this hospital, but the oversight annoys me.
In this case it is it easy, to figure out how to find the room but there are a lot of cases where I seriously have to go onto Google Street View to figure out how I’m going to get into a building or I have to call someone and ask. Sometimes I get totally lost because I find out I’ve gone in the front of some building and everyone else is gone in the back because of course that is where the directions said to park. When I explain I’ve gone in the front, the host or business owner looks at me weird.
