So months back I cut off contact with my mom (Who was an fp of mine) because I came to terms that she had been abusive my whole life, and I deserve better.
Recently my brother reached out begging for us "to just be a family again" and "mom says she doesnt know what she did."
I almost folded at the first message, because I do still miss her every day. But I felt hesitant after he sent that second message. I wrote her a letter with all the exact reasons I picked to cut her off, and it feels like if she cared about me she wouldn't be telling people she doesn't know.
Seeing your article felt very validating of my choice to cut contact, and knowing that I am allowed to keep my boundries exactly where they are. It showed up right when I needed to see it today. Now that I know she's told him she doesn't know, I can see that she isn't going to make that effort and is only gonna try and use my old fear of confrontation to try and force me to come back. But I'm not afraid anymore, not of her.
I've decided that if he tries that again will be telling him not to talk about mom with me, or I will exit the talk.
I miss her so much, but I can miss her and still know I deserve better.

I’m really glad you saw the article when you needed it.
And absolutely. It’s definitely normal and understandable to miss people but have to cut them out. I’m so glad you’re doing what’s right for you. A lot of the time, the right thing is so hard. So I hope you’re proud of yourself because you should be!
