Soap regarded this stranger with distrust.
He needed to make a good first impression, he knew that - after what he'd done, he was surprised he was even being given another chance, surprised they didn't just put him down on the spot. It was what he had been expecting, in all honesty: kill his handler to finally save himself from his violence, even if it meant being killed himself. But, after everything that handler had put him through, it was hard to view any of them with anything but distrust.
It was a cathartic moment; standing over Gale's mangled body, knowing it had been his claws that ripped the man apart. That had finally freed himself. However, it had quickly ended when he'd been discovered standing over what was left of the body.
He was only given a second chance because of his skill, valuable as it was to the military. They had allowed him to live on the condition that another handler stepped forward to take him, something they all knew was highly unlikely after he'd brutally murdered his last.
And yet, here she was.
Soap's brow furrowed in confusion and suspicion. He pointed at the muzzle that was still strapped to his face, despite the fact he was in human form - at least, as human as he could bear to be these days.
"This?" he asked, not even considering she could also be referring to the shock collar tight around his neck. It had been there so long he’d grown used to the feeling of it, all but forgetting it was there until it was shooting electricity through him.
He admired her bravery, because he doubted she'd heard good things about him. But here she was, asking him to remove the one thing keeping her safe from being torn apart in his jaws.
Not that he was going to do that, of course. He needed her alive if he wanted to be allowed to keep on... well, living.
“Are ye sure?” he asked, “Not worried I’ll rip yer face off?”
Probably not the best thing to say if he wanted her to stick around, but that realisation came a little too late.
