The Housemartins - London O Hull 4 (1986). Fell in love with this band right off from the start with this debut album. Always thought they were so similar and maybe equal to The Smiths at the time whom I worshipped. Album covers had that similar 60s pop taste and the music was guitar oriented jangly pop with maybe too good a melody. More soulful and gospel than The Smiths but very similar in its political and ideological lyrics. However, the band didn’t get too far falling apart after two very good albums. Always wondered how they would’ve stood the time if their career had been a bit longer and had more albums to their credit. Both Heaton and Norman Cook went on to their own separate successful careers. Heaton as The Beautiful South (probably a continuation of The Housemartinesque music) and Cook as Fatboy Slim.
