posting the BOFtober prompt here so that everyone knows the context:

my headcanons:

Hanbon: Captain. Maybe her parents used to be privateers in the wars who got laid off when they ended and so they became pirates. Then when they got too old for it or died or went missing the crew voted for her to take her parent’s place. She knows what her parents taught her but I imagine being the actual captain is a massive learning curve, but her crew is generally understanding. An interesting angle could be Shirley and Gal Waters being her lesbian moms and the previous captains before they were killed off or went missing. Maybe the plot centers around finding to find Neal Mohan’s treasure to find out what happened to them or something.

Coy Piso— Prisoner, then Crew, then maybe later promoted to Boatswain. He’s on the run from another pirate crew. Maybe Mr. Beast? Maybe during a naval battle between the two pirate crews he hid himself onboard hanbon’s ship to escape and hoped they would be merciful. Fortunately, Hanbon gave him an opportunity to prove himself, and he way exceeded anyone’s expectations.

Will Wahony— Medic. Maybe for some reason he stopped being able to go to medical school to become a doctor and was left out to dry. So he started looking for jobs and stuff to sustain himself before finding Captain Hanbon. Now he uses what he learned at med school to essentially be the doctor on board.

Shug is also here. He’s solely responsible for taking care of her. She kills the rats and stuff onboard and everyone loves her.

Anthony Po— Quatermaster/First Mate. When he was little (maybe as a baby or when he was old enough to remember it like 7 or 8) Mompo took him and ran away from something (maybe something to do with Neal Mohan? or mr. beast to intertwine characters in that way?) and Mompo joined Hanbon’s parent’s pirate crew.

So when they were young Hanbon and Anthony spent a lot of time together and were basically siblings. The princess and prince of the ship, in most people’s eyes. So the crew turned to the two of them when they lost their previous captain, hence he became her quartermaster/first mate.

People tend to see him as the strict one, and he’s in charge of enforcing the rules on the ship and keeping people on task and stuff. Maybe he’s also in charge of overseeing punishments onboard, which is where he gets closer to Coy, who snuck on as mentioned and needs to be tested.

Shirley and Gal— Master Gunners, if you’re not using the them being captains thing. Besides Hanbon and Anthony they’re considered the most capable fighters onboard. Lesbians with swords. Lesbians with guns. Lesbians with canons. It’s just too fun.

If we ARE going with the lesbian moms to Hanbon thing, then they are the former captain and quartermaster of the ship. Maybe they had information on Neal Mohan’s treasure initially, and Lord Patterson heard about it from them, and they were gone before they told everyone else, making Lord Patterson take credit it for it. Maybe Lord Patterson has something to do with their disappearance for that reason, or maybe it was Neal Mohan, or maybe Mr. Beast, or something else.

Lord Patterson— Crew member. Maybe he betrays Hanbon later down the line so it lines up with the BOF universe, but I am always game for a good ending too. Maybe he’s the one who heard about Neal Mohan’s treasure initially.
