Taichou & Fukutaichou
“—Report!”
Too stern – that was far too stern – she was ordering the third seat around, who had been in his position longer than she had been. She saw it in his glance, the way he narrowed his gaze, harshly judging the newly appointed fukutaichou. ‘The Blonde Bimbo’ some had called her, ‘Eye Candy’, ‘Shiba’s New Toy’, she needed to prove them wrong but this was only their second mission with her in charge – she hadn’t even had the chance to prove herself yet.
“You’re dismissed.”
The squad that had followed their two superior officers was glad to be free of this pointless duty – surveying the districts was hardly a welcomed task. It meant all day out in the sun, on your feet, and you’re never sure what you might run into. The farther out one got – the higher the chances to run into a scarce hollow. They were constantly on alert – an unwelcomed change from their normal duties within the barracks.
However, with the squad making their way back towards the inner walls, she was tasked with the even harder duty – locating her taichou. She had been promoted only about a month earlier, and while she had served under Shiba-taichou for years, she had hardly ever spoken a word to him. However, when the previous fukutaichou had been struck down during a mission and days later she received the summons – she was shocked that he had even considered her for the promotion.
“Taichou!”
She hollered, the open field in which they had made base in, deserted now. Off in the distance was the forest line, she had seen him wander that way – complaining about the heat no less – she was sure she’d find him under a tree.
Crossing the field, a harsh breeze gushed through, tousling her hair and scattering some dried dead leaves into the air. A storm’s wind – she knew it anywhere – overhead the clouds were beginning to gather. It would rain soon and they had a ways to go to get back to the barracks. She’d just leave if she could but she knew she couldn’t up and desert her taichou.
“Shiba-taichou!”
