She knew what he meant. She always knew when it came to Aris, it felt like. Paradise would be unbearable without him at her side. It would be unbearable to see Tom everyday ( to see him enjoying life without her -- to see him HAPPY when she was so TORN ) without Aris at her side. Aris -- he knew her like no one else could. He had felt her pain with the death of Rachel. He had been disowned by the Gladers after their time in the Scorch, and when they had no one else, THEY HAD EACH OTHER. And it was comforting, but it was also SCARY AS HELL.
It was hard to be close to him, despite how strong their connection had become. Teresa was scared to get attached to him, too. She hadn’t put it in words in her mind, but his saying it aloud, well, it was what she was feeling too.
Blue eyes flicked up to meet his gaze, and she could easily see the raw honesty on his features. He was scared, maybe even scared to tell her that he was scared. She didn’t know. All she knew was that she wanted to help him ( that was what they did, help each other when no one else would )
“Hey,” Teresa said softly, her hand reaching to softly rub his shoulder. “It’s okay. I know... I know what you mean, I think -- I’m here for you, in whatever way you’ll let me... because I can’t do this alone. I can’t be here without you. I couldn’t STAND it... you know?” ( she hoped he knew what she meant... ) “So don’t worry about it, because I’m going to be here with you as long as you’ll let me.”
