On this day in 1934, the SS Morro Castle caught on fire and banked itself on the shores of Asbury Park... • Four years ago today, our dear friend Mike Shine @shinanov also landed on the shores of Asbury Park for our first “artist-in-residency” with the Wooden Walls Project @woodenwallsproject... • After hearing the tale of the Morro Castle, Mile creates this portrait of the Captain who died as a result of a heart-attack from allegedly being poisoned. It was part of this solo exhibition at the gallery. This piece resides in a beautiful home about 1/2 a mile from where the ship wrecked. • We realized after the fact that Mike’s arrival in Asbury Park was the same day as the anniversary of the shipwreck... • To learn more about Mike Shine and his available works, email us ([email protected]) or send us a direct message for details and pricing... • #Repost @shinanov ・・・ Captain R Willmott, who died of nefarious causes aboard the cruiseship Morro Castle, hours before it caught fire and wrecked on the beach in front of the convention hall at Asbury, in 1934. He's painted on old wood I found in the Paramount Theater, where many of the bodies were laid out for identification. RIP captain. #woodenwallsproject #parlorgallery #eastcarnybastards #carnybastards (at Asbury Park, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/CE5j14uDiLC/?igshid=g34x9nbi6hfb
