The Parenting (2025) had everything going for it:
Lisa Kudrow. Brian Cox. Edie Falco. Dean Norris. Parker Posey. Plus rising stars Nik Dodani and Brandon Flynn as a sweet, grounded gay couple. A stacked cast that reads like a prestige TV dream team.
And yet⌠itâs a total misfire.
This horror-comedyâabout two sets of parents meeting at a countryside house, only to be terrorized by a 400-year-old entityâfeels like a recycled SNL sketch stretched to 90 minutes. The jokes donât land. The scares donât scare. The âsatireâ is toothless, relying on tired tropes and gags we have seen a million times.
Itâs not Scary Movieâitâs not even trying to be. Itâs safe, studio-approved quirk with all the edge sanded off. And thatâs the real tragedy: when you give legends like Cox and Falco nothing to do but deliver sitcom lines, itâs not just boringâitâs insulting.
I went in hoping for a genre-reviving Halloween gem. I left wondering how this script ever got greenlit.
2/5 stars. A wasted ensemble in a film thatâs neither funny nor frighteningâjust forgettable. We should stop letting SNL writers make movies.

When a strange blackout renders a new space Shuttle, which has been launched into its opening orbit from an Air Force jet, useless, it does its best to maintain order when the vehicle loses control.  Parker Posey as Kitty Kowalski - Superman Returns Topps trading card no. 9 - 2005 Lex has it around for decoration and laughter. But Kitty Kowalsky is no fool, least of all those around Luthor. Opportunist by birth, he cooperates with his wild and lofty plans but immediately suspects their health. Kitty despises the creepy group Lex has formed for her grand criminal adventure.  I was watching The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen on Hulu and looked up Peta Wilson to see whatâs sheâs done since, and saw that she had a small part in Superman Returns and I found this card. She was also in the âLittle Green Menâ episode of the awesome Bones spin-off The Finder. Parker Posey is always awesome. Pretty sure if the LXG reboot wasnât dead before the Disney acquisition of 20th Century, it was killed after.
