Sam Parenting Dean
Have we thought much about that? The show has stated on many occasions that Dean took care of Sam, he practically raised him, Dean has even said he had to be a Father and a Mother to Sam to keep him safe, but he couldnāt do it. Of course because he was too young to take on such a responsibility, but no doubt Dean took care of Sam the best that he could. But what about Sam?Ā
Im not saying Sam raised Dean, because obviously he was even younger, nor am I diminishing Deanās role in Samās life, I just want to look at how Sam has been parental to Dean,Ā even well into aduthood, probably even moreso when theyāre adults than when they were kids.
Jack when you were born, it ripped a hole in reality. Like a door from this world to another, toa really bad, bad place. So Ā Dean and Cass and I, we closed that door. But our mom, Mary, she's trapped on the other side. If we can get your powers back, maybe we can open that door up.

Thinking about Sam and fatherhood and how Dean had to die for Sam to become a good father. Don't get me wrong, Sam loves Jack and tries to be a good father, but he can't love anyone even remotely as much as he loves Dean and at this point they are already so enmeshed. Sam's love for Dean makes him unable to give Jack the unconditional love and support a child deserves and, as we see repeatedly, causes him to become complicit in Dean's abuse of Jack to the point of participation in 14x19. Only with Dean gone for good and with Dean's endorsement of a life of his own can Sam become a good father. While he doesn't love Dean any less in death, his non-presence allows Sam to make room for someone else to love in his life. He can become the kind of father who will never put someone else above his son as long as he lives, who is actually present in his son's life (both physically and mentally) despite his life-long grief.
Mrs Butters RIPPED SAM'S FINGERNAILS OUT to get them to admit Jack is a monster and Sam refused to capitulate the entire time and ppl are still delegating them to uncle status???
