So, I’ve never really had to think of it because Australia isn’t on a tectonic plate so there’s very little if any earth shifting that will do any harm - we just have a lot of animals that can kill you! 

Now, back to the point of what to do with your birds during the event of an Earth quake.

Have everything pre-planned for all natural disasters. This includes:

Carriers/Carry cages

First aid kit

Food storage (Canned veggies can be a short term option for desperate supplies)

Bottled water

Blankets for covers

Towels/Face towels for handling

A sticker on the front window to say there’s an animal inside

Flyers prepared with photos and info about your bird and if it has a leg-band or a microchip if found.

Going to the safest room in your house with your bird secure and wait out for the earth quake to stop.The rule for an earthquake is to “Drop, Cover, Hold On” and don’t move between rooms.If the earthquake is predicted beforehand, covering and securing your birds carrier under a table would be the best option. The danger in an earthquake is flying, and moving objects.

Don’t forget about the after shocks, so keep your bird secure until all warnings of the earthquake has passed.
