A Weird Route Theory Made by Someone Who's Looking Purely at Surface Level Things
Im not as 'in the theory pits' as other theorists are, and I try to stick to the facts when i think about theories. That means a LOT of speculative stuff that most dr theories work off of aren't as appealing to me, except of course when it's very silly. i love me some silly theories.
but on a serious theory note, I'd like to share what I've seen so far in chapter 5, and what i think might happen next based off purely the surface level viewing
the weird route begins. Noelle casts snowgrave and Berdly is hospitalized.
We, the player, put the thorn back into Noelle's finger. Kris gets a call from someone- likely mayor Carol, but it could be someone else -just asking to confirm that Noelle was going to the festival with Kris the next day. And that Noelle was very excited about it.
Festival day, where chapter 5 weird route goes on a very different path compared to the normal route:
Rudy seems to be. 'Fine'. It doesn't seem he's fallen down, or at least he hasn't fallen down Yet. The terminology used in the normal route, "fallen down" is about monsters who fall into comas before dying. I believe the term is used purposely ambiguous here. We don't know if Rudy fell down off the ladder or Fell Down in the normal route, but here it seems he's... fine. for now, at least.
Asgore's in his shop, and Susie can see him inside. It seems there's no darkworld there. We know Kris opened ch5's first fountain, and they do Not open it in the weird route. It seems the knight doesn't step up to open it in Kris's place. Asgore might(?) be waiting for the fountain to open so he can collect evidence. Presumably, this means that Flowery... is fine? For now, at least.
Kris and Noelle are acting really fucking strange, which is notable to other characters. Toriel and Susie take note, and I wonder if Sans actually picks up on this as well. Given he's there watching two teens walk around an empty festival.
Kris and Noelle go into the lake. Chapter ends, 'insert chap 7 side B'.
Susie doesn't follow Kris when they go to talk to Noelle, she's getting ice cream. Now, the ice cream stand isn't too far away from the lake. And it seems to be in Direct Line of Sight of the lake.
Rudy says something a bit strange in the weird route, "holidays are always full of surprises". a bit odd, but nothing too out of the ordinary, if these were ordinary circumstances. unfortunately, they aren't.
Carol seems to Know something. Her emphasis on YOU, her reaction to Susie holding the guitar which had part of the shelter code, the implication that she's the one calling Kris.
Asgore knows a Few things. A dark fountain has been opened before, he Knows about that. He somehow knew that Kris could Close a fountain. He was working closely with Carol for a while, she could have been the one to tip him off about the fountain in his shop.
Undyne isn't there. Everyone else seems to be viewing the king and queen crowning. Rudy is likely still okay.
All right.
Here's my idea.
Kris and Noelle go into the lake.
Susie, having turned her head or just gotten the ice cream. Sees this.
She tries to go in after them, if she does- it'd be reasonable that she'd start shouting. Maybe it gets Sans' attention, maybe she realizes they're in too deep and she can't get to them, and she runs back shouting for help- and Sans is right there.
Sans in New in town, and while he's displayed a lot of fourthwall-ish breaking gags, he most likely doesn't have a fucking CLUE about the prophecy or the dark fountains or anything. Sans is reasonable. If two teens swam too far into the lake, then its the adult's job to go save the teens.
Sans would probably call the cops- but Undyne's not There and Napstablook might be at the crowning ceremony. They might also be in the police station, in which case they'd be able to help.
Who else is there? Rudy, Toriel, Asgore are all available.
But Rudy's acting. Off. "Holidays are always full of surprises". If he's being sincere, and if he hasn't gone elsewhere, he'd be around to help. But it'd be very very convenient if he vanished just before Susie needs to find him. Susie might also not even ask Rudy, as there would be a perceived Time Limit as to how long they'd have to get Kris and Noelle out of the lake. This probably takes Toriel off the table as well.
Asgore's right there. Asgore would definitely help. But the knight kidnaps Asgore in the normal route, it might not be viable to count on him here, but if he IS there, he would help.
Who else is there? Someone on the same street and someone Sans KNOWS for a fact hasn't left the house? someone who WE know should be eager to help?
If Papyrus gets called out to help, Then we Might get a situation where Sans, Papyrus and Susie all chase after Kris and Noelle.
And given how the weird route seems to be leading to Undertale (at least it's leading towards Undertale a tiny bit more strongly than the normal route) having Sans and Papyrus together for whatever weird route BS that sends em to UT would make sense.
