In Transition
He'd spent the whole of the day, contemplating, what he wanted to take with him from the shack they'd spent so long together in. He knew he'd picked up and discarded the same hat at least half a dozen times, but he couldn't well and truly let the place he'd watched Grace grow up, just vanish. He slid his fingers around the rim of the hat as he stared at the cottage's sparse surroundings. There was little left now, what had once been their home, was, moved. Still, he slid his hand around one of the few hats in view. (he'd long decided to keep them out of view for Grace.)
"It is a difficult thing, walking away from all you thought you knew. We've spent so many years here, together." Jefferson casually wiped the dust from the walls, even as he traveled the small space. He let his fingertips trace the lines of Grace's growth, one by one until they stopped, when he got sent to Wonderland. He couldn't help but whisper "I don't want to go."
The waiting Game
The stew had been left simmering on the stove, while Jefferson himself paced the small cottage. Every few minutes he'd stride purposefully to the door only to freeze before opening it. He repeated his mantra, a steady streaming refrain-Grace is fine. She's with her mother. She can't be harmed with magic. His mind had already supplied a multitude of scenarios in which she'd taken his daughter from him.
He stalked over to his workbench and reached for a small piece of fabric. His mind calmed and he knew he couldn't do that, every time they were together. He sat at the bench and worked for long minutes constructing the base of the hat, using a wire rim to keep the shape together, when he heard the door open and shut. He stood immediately, his face breaking into a wide grin.
"Grace, you're back!"
The Portal Jumper's Gambit
Jefferson sat on the small tree stump, sitting just out of view from the cabin he'd raised Grace in. The last time he'd been in the enchanted forest, there'd been a tree where now, there was only it's remains. He'd hid behind that tree playing a game with his daughter. Now he sat on a stump. And he pondered the stone in his hands, mulling it over. How could something so small hold such power? And what had creating this spell cost him? He remembered every moment with Grace, every first with her. And yet the memory had to be something powerful to help create the magic within the spell. He was pondering what it could be, when he heard movement through the woods. "Grace? Is that you?" he asked.

So even older than my actual age then! I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing.
Thanks for the ask dear!

The Truth Revealed
Cora had gone. He had seen, but hadn't care as she disappeared in a whirl of smoke. All that mattered was that Grace, his Grace was safe. He resisted the urge to hug her tighter. He remember her when she was just a scrawny, squiggling being placed in his arms. He had no ideas what hand to put where and had been terrified he would drop her. He hadn't known how to be a father than. Sometimes he wondered if he knew how to be a father now. Still, in the back of his mind was the fear they would take her from him.
"Grace, I know you have questions. Before we get to them, I want to say . . . I'm sorry. I shouldn't have lied. I love you baby girl," he told her, kissing her head briefly before turning away.
Grace's true mother
The first thing he realized upon entering the room was that his palms were sweaty. One by one he registered his body's responses to being in the same room with these women. His breathing was heavier, his pulse raced at a level unexpected. They were queens and they stood before him as only queens would. He'd known from the start that it would end badly, but he'd had a daughter to protect, family to protect and he had been hell-bant on doing that, all the while wanting to ignore it. Until his Grace started asking questions, that he wasn't sure how to answer. He briefly squeezed Grace's shoulder before he began."My thanks your graces, for allowing us an audience. There, is a matter that requires discussion. It . . . involves Grace."
