Dawn, Day, and Dusk lived happily together, for a time. But Dawn and Dusk shared a love different than the love they shared with Day. And as Day watched as Dawn and Dusk fell deeper and deeper for the other, he grew bitter and envious, for he loved the Lady of Spring as well. And so the Lord of Summer, wanting her for himself, severed the Lord of Autumn’s head from his shoulders as the very first violent act of their peaceful home. He burned his body and hid the ashes -- but beautiful Dawn, Lady of Light, Lady of Life, knew her lovely Lord of Wind and Time was dead. Grief corrupted her heart and she became an absence of everything she was: cold and dark and a bringer of death. Her clouds, once filled with rain to bring life, became frozen. They extinguished the Sun; and thus Night extinguished Day for the life he took from her. And so Dusk was gone. And Day was dead. And Dawn would not return in the morning.
