Ok, so I have a theory on why the White Palace looks like it does...
The one you enconuter in the game, is the real White Palace, but a broken version of the original one, that the Pale King constructed to imprision himself, after all the pain he caused.
Except for the Path of Pain, which explains something else, and is not a training course.
