like.. its not bc they r both asian but bc of that they seems to be tight before the show, like theyre brothers. n siblings can have different last names? my brother n i for example?
Very close platonic relationships can exist between two people that are not related. There could be plenty of reasons why they’re close (childhood friends, ect) and they can even treat each other like brothers without being actually related. There is 0 indication that Shiro and Keith are actually blood related in the show. Looking at 2 people who are both East Asian and believing them to be brothers despite having 0 evidence is racist.Â

Btw, while I have seen people outside this ship do the brother headcanon, often to dismiss, discredit, or w/e us, but those of us who ship Sheith who write them as any sort of brothers (blood relation or adopted) are often doing it to spite them, not because we think they're brothers because they're both asian and therefore must be related. I still don't think that's good, but the intentions are very different.
I mean tbh it doesn’t matter to me if the person supporting the brother headcanons is a Sheith shipper or not. If someone is entertaining the idea that Shiro and Keith are blood related, then it’s important that they question why they think that two East Asian characters should be blood related. It’s a really really common racist trope in American media to have one “token” character of a certain racial minority, and, on the off chance there is more than one character of that minority, that character is always a blood relative of the other one. I think Voltron is really great at giving us a whole range of diverse characters and as a fandom, it’s gross that people are falling into old, overdone, racist tropes. This shit doesn’t exist in a cultural vacuum, people. Â
That being said, I think headcanons where Shiro and Keith are adopted brothers could be okay, but I would be very careful. In the hands of the right writer, I think it could be done well, but I don’t think this is something that a majority of the fandom should be creating content for. And again, I think it’s important to question why the headcanons involve Shiro and Keith and not, let’s say, Lance and Hunk.Â
