#3731 - Pakau pennigera - Lime Fern
AKA gully fern, and feather fern. The binomial is derived from PÄkau, or pÄkauroharoha - the common name for the fern in Te Reo MÄori - and the Latin for 'bearing feathers'.
The taxonomicc history is a nightmare - former names have included Cyclosorus pennigera; Thelypteris pennigera; Dryopteris pennigera var. hamiltoni; Polypodium pennigerum var. hamiltonii; Polypodium pennigerum var. giganteum; Polystichum pennigerum; Phegopteris cunninghamii; Polypodium pennigerum; Polypodium subsimilis ; Goniopteris penniger; Lastrea penniger; Nephrodium pennigerum; Cyclosorus pennigerus; Dryopteris pennigera; Goniopteris forsteri ; Aspidium cunninghamii; Aspidium novae-zeelandiae; Aspidium pennigerum; and Pneumatopteris pennigera. The current genus was erected in 2021, and for the time being it's the only species in it.
A small fern found in SE Australia and New Zealand, growing in open woodland and along streams.
