Aloja are feminine water spirits from Catalan mythology. They live in fresh water, and are said to be strikingly beautiful. They are typically small, with red or golden hair and green or blue eyes. They are sometimes said to have wings.
Aloja can turn water into blackbirds. Although they are not immortal, they can live for thousands of years, remaining young and beautiful all the while. They will sometimes marry human men, but if their partner ever reveals their magical nature, they will disappear along with all of their husband's wealth.
