My grandmother is selling the family lake cottage in Maine. It’s been in our family for well over 100 years…. It’s a sad time but the little town we all knew and loved isn’t what it use to be.
Upon helping her clean it out I came to the realization that saving things for years & years is kind of pointless. I saved a few family things and so did my siblings; but most of it went to goodwill.
Now that I’m back home I have the want to go through my own things and purge what is not necessary to keep. There is so much stuff we have in our own tiny 1100sqft house (and tucked away in storage) that I am pretty sure we don’t need. Things we haven’t touched in months, maybe even years and I have to ask myself, why do we keep it? If it’s not useful why hang on to it?
In the next few weeks I’ll be making many trips to good will and attempting to sell things online. I want to get away from this materialistic life we have and learn to love & use what we have.
