I will say this. People are mad about the therapyspeak in ii4 BUT you have to realize it makes sense for them to talk that way. They just learned what trauma Is and different ways of describing it of course theyre going to use words wrong or overuse them thats just how it works. It upsets you because you understand the meaning of the words but They Don't. They want to define their experiences and trauma and they dont have the knowledge to do so and it is on purpose. I do not think its bad writing I actually think its a very powerful way to show that these characters Do Not Know Anything. They find out new words and throw them at the wall because they have no other way of defining their experiences
if i was poppy id be so fucking confused because what do you mean paper the guy who hates me and doesnt trust me and treats me Strangely just did a complete 180 and is nice now. like what do you even do??? you cant say No i dont want you to hang out with me, because No One is hanging out with you and if you say that youll look weird again. like to me poppy and papers friendship is just paper smiling and poppy fear grimacing

something i really like about poppy is that they're not perfect and they do fuck up every now and then. the most obvious examples being calling bot "that" and "it", as well as in ep4, pressing tapey's buttons without her permission which she is visibly upset by
another thing from ep2 is that they say "tinkering with machines just seems interesting to me" and while there's nothing inherently wrong with that statement, they look over to bot while saying it. bot. who is an entire Person.
but this doesn't make them a bad person and doesn't detract from what they're going through at all because that'd be stupid if it did. it's just refreshing to see a character do some not awesome things and be in the wrong, but also that doesn't outweigh what they have to deal with outside of that. no one is perfect in inanimate insanity, not even someone who hasn't played the game
was talking with friends yesterday about character arcs in ii and how they're really good actually. i remember we mentioned knife's arc and how he has genuinely changed, but he still does things that are bad! i brought up the whole "i can't protect you anymore" thing he said to suitcase because that's very infantilizing towards her, especially after what she had to deal with cobs saying to her (the whole "grownups are talking" and "sound it out" shit that he only said to suitcase and not knife). suitcase does not need knife's protection and she says so herself after knife says he can't anymore. knife is a much better person, yes, but he is not a perfect person because no one is. it's something i really like about the show because when someone grows and changes to be better, their old self doesn't just go away completely. "i can't protect you anymore" doesn't come from a place of malice- knife's intention is good, yes, but intention doesn't matter as much as the actual action and its consequences.
also no girlbossifying suitcase in the notes oh mygod
