The little church of Agios Nikolaos in nearby Maza in that part of Western Crete we’ve come to know a little better than not at all, painted by the great Ioannis Pagomenos (see his signature at the end of the dedicatory panel) in 1325-6. The south-facing panels are very damaged by what looks like salt and there are instances of eye-gouging - I never know (but I should) if this is iconoclasm and on whose part or something apotropaic.
