A not very professional but very passionate opinion about
Hot chocolate:
First off- Starbucks does it very wrong, it’s grainy at the bottom and I guess they put in a coffee flavoring? Like how they don’t serve Italian soda! Everything must be coffee there, GROSS!!
Hot chocolate is PERFECT for winter spring and fall, the perfect beverage. And during summer? Chocolate milk! During any slightly chilly day you can go into any breakfast joint and get a warm cup of hot choco in a ceramic mug, the waitress knows to put in whipped cream who are we kidding here. sip it slowly with a spoon between bites of hashbrowns and pancake. Try not to drink it all before your food gets there!
Make it smooth and rich, not like your drinking flavored water but not like your biting into a bar of chocolate either. It has a robust full sweet taste. Warm but not scalding and the whipped cream is cool so it’s like your digging into the earth, cool top to a warm center.
My favorite hot chocolate spot is Blue Kangaroo because it’s only a bit out of my work commute and it has several different flavor options! all of them good too. white, Mexican, ghirardelli, ect… Variety is exciting, especially on something it’s sort of hard to find in the first place. Good hot chocolate is actually very hard to find.
Whipped cream? YES and bit Leslie knope YES to whipped cream!
sprinkles? nyeeeaaaa….looks great, doesn’t add anything taste of texture wise so use as mostly decoration.
I use hot chocolate as a remedy for sore throats actually. A remedy for nerves. It helps depression. It cures all sorts of ailments. It’s good for calming the nerves and building a calm courage for a good days work
Hot chocolate at home? Swiss Miss is fine, since it’s Swiss. Ovaltine really isn’t hot chocolate, it’s a chocolate drink mix. I don’t think i’ve ever done a real test of at home mixes. I ought to, my family just diligently buys anything that claims to be Swiss and I married into an ovaltine family. But the key to hot chocolate at home is marshmallows. The ideal date: Hot chocolate topped with marshmallows and fudge brownies drowned in marshmallows. Just fuck me up.
