REST IN PARADISE PABLO RAMIREZ • SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA 2019
HUF x The Pablo Ramirez Foundation Honor Pablo Ramirez With Capsule & SF Community Weekend Event
HUF proudly partners with The Pablo Ramirez Foundation (PRF) to present The Power of Pablo - a weekend series of skateboarding, art, fashion, and music events in San Francisco from March 10th through March 13th, 2022 to celebrate the birthday of legendary skateboarder, artist, and musician, Pablo Ramirez, who passed away in 2019. Ramirez was on the HUF skate team and created over 2,500 paintings, poems, and drawings before his passing.
In honor of Ramirez’s life and the body of work he left behind, the HUF x PRF capsule will feature a curated selection of Pablo’s artwork and writings across a range of apparel styles including a hoodie, t-shirts, and socks. Also included in the capsule is a special, 100 page magazine titled ”Pablo: The Life, Art, and Legacy of Pablo Ramirez” published Skate Jawn and PRF to honor Pablo’s “Life Is Beautiful” spirit. Proceeds from both the HUF x PRF capsule + magazine and The Power of Pablo weekend events will benefit PRF, allowing the foundation to continue to provide opportunity and advocacy for the youth so they can reach their full potential as skateboarders, artists, and musicians.
Highlighting the weekend’s events will also be The Power of Pablo Art Show, where work from 100 artists from San Francisco and beyond will be on display. This group show will showcase emerging artists alongside established contributors such as Mark Gonzales, Alicia McCarthy, Chris Johanson, Ed Templeton, Jeffrey Cheung, Steve ESPO Powers, Matt Gonzalez, Joe Roberts, William Strobeck, Haroshi and more, as well as selected originals and reproductions from Pablo’s art collection.
The HUF x PRF capsule is set to release on March 10, 2022 and will be available for purchase on HUF’s website, flagship stores, and select HUF retailers.
For a detailed schedule of the The Power of Pablo events taking place Thursday through Sunday - including the workshops, meetups, and more - please visit the PRF’s website at https://www.pabloramirez.org/the-power-of-pablo-2022.

stockholm fashion week: pablo ramirez
(images via fashion inquisitive)
lately i've been vexed in the extreme that the superb designs offered by the scandinavian fashion weeks haven't been receiving the press they undoubtedly deserve, but argentine designer pablo ramirez was hard to find for a different reason: his name isn't particularly distinctive. nevertheless, i was able to glean a little information on his s/s 2012 range, if after a moment of glancing through it, you won't already understand it all.
upon first glancing through, i got an immediate flash of the myrrh-soaked ysl collection for f/w 2010, but if stefano pilati there channeled nuns running the halls of latter-day catholic schools, mr. ramirez's latest work evoked the schoolgirls. interestingly, as i turned to the mbfws site to learn about the collection, the first words that struck me were "his catholic upbringing has proved to be a huge influence upon his work. Dominated by black dresses, his debut was inspired by the look of his schoolteachers- nuns dressed traditionally in habits, the long dress symbolizing their religious calling."
the site also explains that the "summer collection is a dream inspired by the return to school. Back to the classroom became in a truly celebration. Innocent pupils dressed in uniforms for ballet classes, art and music meet their rigorous governesses. Contrast between the severe lines of mature women with the romantic silhouettes of young ladies dreaming in the prom dress."
working exclusively in a classically-shaded palette (though i did wonder at the absence of plaid) of black, crisp white, and light gray, with the only vestige of colour in the bone-hued heels the models occasionally sported, the designer seemed to have an eye on volume, serving blown-up versions of the uniforms still frequently in use. pleats, tucks, sculpted sleeves, bows, and rounded peter pan collars functioned as interest points, although rigidity still felt the key word of the day.
if anything, this felt like a retro exploration on the theme, for prim forties-esque silhouettes occasionally made their way into the range (and the heels seemed more suited to such than any student might try to pull out today), and made for the probably-more-alluring pieces to today's contemporary woman than all the jumpers and governess-y billowing blouses found elsewhere. i did find it a novel and lovely approach to the inspiration, but save for some of the sleeker numbers have a difficult time imagining many girls wanting to pull on uniforms once again to truck around town, this time remembering that they no longer have their extreme youth to make the decidedly frumpy garb glitter.
