After attending some serious business at one of the many taverns in town, Oberon walked out of the building to find his horse and ride back to the Keep. However, halfway towards the animal, he felt observed. The man slowed down and carefully glanced behind him, over his shoulder. He only saw commoners going in and out of the tavern, some passing by, others gossiping near the fruit stand across the street. Many glanced back at him, mostly women examining his fancy clothing and pretty hair, but that was not it. Oberon smiled to himself and dismissed what he believed to be only paranoid thoughts. He resumed his walking and almost bumped into a womanly figure, one he knew very well.
Gods all damned. It was enough having Caliana so near him and his family, he did not need her. At least Cal, in all her wilderness, valued other human’s lives, but not her. Men were merely pets to her, they were only objects she could possess. He had seen his crew, his own men, being transformed into beasts by her hand and out of whim. If he came out of her traps alive, in one piece and still human, it was thanks to his wits and her own morbid sense of freedom. “Delightful surprise,” he said as he gave her a look from head to toe, with a charming half-smile. “Did you finally decide to join people? Or are you recruiting a herd?”
