Godfrey loved food. He loved food more than he loved nearly anything else. But he had a huge weakness for pork buns, especially the ones sold by a certain Song Jaerim.
The pork bun guy, as everyone seemed to affectionately refer to him, didn't usually give out his name, but Godfrey had done some research. The stand seemed to run long into Jaerim's family history, others owning it before him. That explained why it was so good. A family recipe, perhaps; one that would hopefully never be shared with anyone else.
And that was where Godfrey was headed today, envelope clutched tightly in his hand. It wasn't so much Jaerim's pork bun stand anymore as it was Godfrey's. He was now the proud owner of the small pork bun stand that he loved oh so much. But that didn't necessarily mean anything to Godfrey. It wasn't as if he would do anything to desiccate the hard work that Jaerim and his family had put into the stand. There wasn't a damn thing that Godfrey would change about it.
It seemed that Jaerim needed help. There weren't many days that Godfrey went by the stand and Jaerim wasn't standing there, steaming a fresh batch of pork buns with that same smile on his lips. He was always such a friendly man, which made it even easier for Godfrey to keep on coming back. And it made it easier for Godfrey to so willingly hand over the money that he had paid for Jaerim's stand.
There were so many food places in Seoul that Godfrey owned, he could hardly even keep track. As a matter of fact, normally, he didn't keep track. He paid the companies each month for owning them, but that was as far as it went. People worked damn hard for their businesses, and Godfrey had his own. He wasn't going to mess with anyone else's.
Godfrey stopped in front of Jaerim's pork bun stand, a brilliant smile playing at his lips. "Good afternoon," he said happily, holding the envelope towards the humble chef. "I wanted to let you know that I've purchased your little pork bun stand. These are the proceeds from my purchase - I do hope that it's enough." When Godfrey bought out small businesses, especially the tiny, private ones like this one, he always paid extra. This stand truthfully wasn't worth more than a few hundred thousand won. But inside the envelope was two million won - truthfully not ridiculously much in Godfrey's eyes, but hopefully enough to make a difference.
"Now... could I buy a pork bun? Or-- wait, two. Could I have two?" With a smile, he fished out his wallet, the usual amount for two buns set aside. He pulled it out and held it between two fingers, offering it out to Jaerim.
