1. How long have I known about them?
Since I played the original Arkham Asylum. That was my first exposure to the good Doctor Crane, and what perfect way to introduce me to him. Ahahah~ Dinoās version will forever be what I hear in my head.
6. The moment of theirs that made me the saddest
Oooh a hard question, Iām going to have to give this to Year One and Masters of Fear. His childhood was really depressing and it resonated with me the first time I read those stories. I really relate to Jonathan and his struggles with bullies. I think a lot of people can understand how it feels to be ostracized for their looks, and we want to sympathize with Crane because of that.
9. My favorite canon outfit of theirs
Year Oneās outfit hands down. Technically it is just some prop from a costume shop, but I like to headcannon that he made all the cool enchantments like the belts and hat. (no store bought costume is THAT cool) The mask is also hand-sewn. If you pay close attention, the scarecrow from his childhood and his year one outfit look eerily similar. Great foreshadowing.
10. My favorite moment with them in canon
I have too many favorite moments, so let me give you one of them just in case I get asked this question again. Iām going to use this as a chance to recommend Scarecrowās Batman 66ā² origin story. This comic gives him an origin similar to Year One and I feel like it goes woefully under appreciated. I donāt want to spoil the story if youāve never read it, but please give it a chance. His outfit in this comic is also one of my favorites.
14. What I liked about the way canon portrayed them
Ahh~ another question with many answers. I really love how how he was portrayed in Arkham Asylum, and Iām not just saying that because it was my first experience with Scarecrow. Speaking from a purely visual standpoint, his levels were something entirely different from the rest of the game. They really catch the player off guard. One of this tricks actually confuses the player into believing their game is broken. Itās fantastic storytelling and I havenāt even gotten to his character design--god I love that fear gauntlet. I really wish an artist would adopt that into the comics already.
15. What I don't like about the way canon portrayed them
Usually I try to find something I like in every comic, so itās hard to say. However, thereās one thing I -kinda- dislike. Yellow Lantern Scarecrow overexposed himself to fear gas and became emotionally dead; I really donāt know what the writers were thinking when they decided this was a good idea. He can only feel fear when fighting Batman. This only matters in that specific universe, but sometimes fans get confused and write him off as emotionless anyways. Yet thereās multiple times in the comics where he seems distressed and broken. If heās really emotionless, why does he look like a sad puppy when you take away his ring?? Anyway...outside of these comics, heās not literally emotionless and I hope it stays that way.
