everyday felt the same to him. it was excrushiatingly long and painful and just plain annoying. hyukmin has gotten used to the numb feeling that he gets every morning the second his alarm goes off and it always lasts until his eyes close to sleep. he couldn’t explain the feeling other than just that he only woke up to go back to sleep that night. he didn’t smile anymore, he hardly laughed, he’s grown even more quiet in school as he choice to just be alone. besides, if he was alone, the less likely he’d get disappointed with anyone who tried to be his friend only to leave.
this day wasn’t any different as he sat in class, blocking out the small conversations from classmates here and there as their teacher called out names in pairs. hyukmin had always hated group projects. he wasn’t ever liked by anyone and most people just took advantage of how smart he was and he’d end up doing the assignment by himself at the end of the day. he listens closely, already expecting his partner to be someone he didn’t really know -- but boy, was he wrong.
the name that leaves the teacher’s lips echos in his mind a few times over and out of pure shock, his jaw drops slightly. hyukmin doesn’t bother looking at the male he was partnered with, he knew all too well what he looked like. either way, it didn’t stop the other popular kids before they began making fun of him and laughing as per usual.
“oh, good luck with him. he’s kind of weird, doesn’t talk much, but hey! he’s smart! he’ll probably do the whole project for you!”
