Rin watched him go and took in a breath, shocked by Harukaās pushiness. For a moment, he wanted to throw his arms out like a foreigner, but then he thought, That kind of affected pose wouldnāt suit a transfer student, would it, so he didnāt. While he was watching Harukaās back, wondering what to do, someone unexpectedly gave him a gentle push from behind, and he stumbled forward a bit.
āWhat are you doing? Youāre being left behind.ā Makotoās smile passed by on Rinās side.
āYeah, yeah, Iām going.ā
Rin felt someoneās gaze on him and looked around to see that the whole class was watching the three of them with eyes full of curiosity. Itās a good thing I didnāt take that completely ridiculous pose, he thought. Then, as if running away from their gazes, Rin hurried after Makoto.
Ok first context: rin just transferred schools, haru and makoto knew him before, and from what we see in the anime confirms this.
So I want to talk about a few things about this, the first being how adorable kid rin is. Ah, the good ol days before things went to shit.
The second is how, though may not intentional, it sort of is a scene that speaks for the whole series.
The first thing I thought when reading this, was oh, rin was always chasing them, and then after I processed what I thought, I paused.
Because isnāt that whatās happening?
Heās always just running after them.
Makoto started out further back than him, but then gets ahead of himārunning after haru, sweet sweet haru who doesnāt ever stop, or look back, just walking forwardā maybe heās scared to look back, scared heāll see him not followingāand rin, rin is just running after the both of them, isnāt he?
Heās always being left behind, isnāt he?
He always is to slow to run after them.
