In the original Ruby I just wasn't bothered by him at all, he was the recurring and vaguely annoying obstacle that occasionally popped up to very slightly hinder me
But in ORAS they have done just such an amazing job with giving him character and development and emotional pull, like that showdown in Victory Road this time actually feels really significant and special
